Genesis 14

To give us an idea of how Abram’s wealth has grown, take note that in v 14, he takes 318 of his men – born in his house – with him to rescue Lot. Lot and his family have been abducted after  a battle lost by the kings around Sodom and Gomorrah to other kings. Abram’s rescue of Lot is successful, and afterward we are introduced to Melchizedek, who is both a king and a priest. God’s word does not tell us as much as we might like to know about Melchizedek. But he is obviously a significant figure, as in Hebrews 5:5-10 Jesus is said to be made a high priest by God after the order of Melchizedek.
