Genesis 13
Abram’s wealth was increasing, and indeed he is said in verse 2 to be rich in livestock and gold and silver. His nephew Lot had much livestock as well; and that was creating problems between the herdsmen of the relatives. So Abram gives Lot his choice of taking the land to one direction or the other, stating that he would take the other direction. Lot chooses the land that looks the best. As Abram settles in the land of Canaan, it is clear that this is where the Lord intended him to go along, as he repeats his promise and shows Abram the land that will belong to his descendants.
Abram’s faith is increasing; but as we will see, he is not a perfect man and has not learned to fully trust in God.
